Current exhibition at Bruno David Gallery: Judith Shaw: Off the Wall | March 6 - April 11, 2026

Judith Shaw makes assemblage-style forms by fusing unexpected combinations of ordinary materials with simple fabrication methods. The resulting pieces explore the complexity of the human condition. Her approach is intuitive, spontaneous, and uninhibited. The pieces may look reckless and haphazard, yet the messiness of detail is intentional. Her sculptural practice is where she abandons the need for order and control that drives every other aspect of her life. This freedom of expression propels her to create. In this way, art gives visual reference to moods, moments, and memories. In nature and in the physical presence of the everyday, she observes the metaphorical richness and interplay of shape, light, form, pattern, line, color, texture, and space. Shaw was born in New York City and now lives and creates in St. Louis.
